Everton stars Tim Howard and Sylvain Distin show their support for local UFC stars

Terry Etim and Andy “The Little Axe” Ogle headed down to Finch Farm this week to meet with Everton players and huge Ultimate Fighting Championship® fans Tim Howard and Sylvain Distin. The footballers were keen to show their support to the UFC athletes ahead of their bouts against Renne Forte and Josh Grispi respectively on 16th February at Wembley Arena.

Distin noted; “I really appreciate the sport, the guys are real athletes and it’s an amazing sport. Tim and I have started watching it a lot and are always calling each other up during events or talking about it in the dressing room afterwards.”

The two footballers even try to squeeze in some pad work in between their busy training schedule, although believe that they stuck with the right sport. “We try to do some pad work once a week,” explained Distin, “but just three one minute rounds and it’s over, I’m on my knees it’s so difficult! That’s why I really enjoy watching these guys compete, I understand just how difficult it is to excel in MMA.”

With Etim and Ogle’s bouts nearing, the pair spoke out about how important local support is to them. “It was great to meet Tim and Sylvain today,” said Etim, “honestly I was a little surprised that they knew so much about the UFC, but that just shows how much the sport is growing in the UK.”

“I’m really honoured to have the support from the whole of the Everton team ahead of my bout with Grispi,” added Ogle, “we’ll be at their match against West Brom this Wednesday cheering them on, and hopefully they’ll be able to make it to Wembley on the 16th.”

After Distin and Howard presented Ogle and Etim with a signed UFC London 2013 Everton jersey, the guys poised to debate who would win if Distin and Howard ever met inside the Octagon. “I tell Sylvain this all the time, he hits these pads but the pads don’t hit back, that part is easy,” boasted Howard, “I mean he’s got a big left hand but if I can slip it he might be in trouble.”
