Good picks Jay, I agree in principle with your top 5 in each, however I personally do not think Paul Sass is aboveTerry Etim, Sass has no stand up at all, and Etim can handle his own on the ground, Etim has also fought and won at a higher level so Etim would be my number 1, and Rob Sinclair would not make my top 5, both Paul kelly and Curt Warburton would be above him in my picks. The rest of the weight classes I more or less agree with, maybe a jumble around a bit. But nice Job.
By the way for UK fight fans UCMMA is on April 7th headline fight between former British HW boxer Mark potter and champion Darren Towler

i couldnt put sass over etim either, but agree w/ everything else.

btw, i know most of these guys by name only & occasionally seeing a clip of their fights, but was surprised to see that some fighters bc i didnt know they were British lol

It's all a matter of opinion, I just feel that right now Paul Sass is riding a 12 fight winning streak and Etim is 2-2 with one of those wins against Eddie Faaloloto whom is currently 2-3.

I have wondered that PF, as 5 of the named contenders are other nationalities, ( Brazilian, South African, Czech, Polish, and Greek Cypriot, how can they be ranked in English MMA?, I agree they can be ranked in different company rankings, ie Bamma ranked or Cage Rage ranked, but it does seem strange they are officially listed as UK mma rankings when they are listed as representing other countries

Hey thanks for the advise, if you name a few of the fighters ill see which ones you bring up and explain there routes. Also I shall do more research before posting etc. On review fighters like Karlos Vermola were a mistake to add I suppose however looking at other UK MMA websites ranking they have people such as Marius Zamromskis listed as British.
I shall attempt to make a stricter conditions for the British rankings!

I think the confusion stems from the fact a lot of them now train at UK gyms and participate in UK MMA events.Marius ┼Żaromskis is in fact Lithuanian and now fights in Bellator ( I think). You are right though UK MMA ratings list them as UK ranked, which in my opinion is wrong, as for the named fighters, Stav Economou is a Greek Cypriot, Przemyslaw Mysiala is Polish, Karlos Vemola is Czech, Claudio Henrique Da Silva is Brazilian, and Neil Grove is of course South African, although I think he holds dual nationality due to his English wife, it would be interesting if you could find out their routes that allowed them to be ranked as UK fighters though, by the way this was not a criticsm of your ranking system as they are very similar to UKMMA rankings,

Yeah, now that I also have a base rankings it'll be easier to update and I shall be kicking these none British out! The next shall be a true UK rankings, Grove however I will have to call British as his twitter shows his as a Brit! 1 up lol

I like the lists. I think it's only a matter of time though before Andy Ogle and Saul Rogers bump their way into the Top 5 FW rankings with Ogle in the TUF house and the huge FW Saul spending a month of his last camp at Tri Star.

If I was 50 years younger I'd kick your ass!

jjeans's picture

Yeah Saul had a fantastic 2011, and I really hope Ogle is as successful as Bisping and Pearson as opposed to shall we just say "less successful British TUFers"
